Founder- Shri. P.S. Nataraja Pillai

The Honourable P.S. Nataraja Pillai was born on 10th March 1891 at Aleppy, Kerala as the son of an eminent scholar and writer Shri. Manonmaniam T. Sundran Pillai. P.S. Nataraja Pillai was an Indian politician, freedom fighter and Member of Parliament during the 3rd Lok Sabha elections held in 1962. He served as the advisor to the Travancore Government in Delhi in 1948 and Finance Minister of Travancore-Cochin State from 1954 to 1955.

Sundara Vilasom School

The great administrator and educationalist Shri. P.S. Nataraja Pillai started a school at the age of 17 in the fond memory of his late father Sundaram Pillai. It was known as Sundara Vilasom L.P. School which played a vital role in fulfilling the educational needs of socially and financially backward classes of people in Harvipuram. The school which was inaugurated by the great Kerala Kalidasa Valiya Koithampuram in 1908 with Shri. Pattom Thanupillai as the Headmaster and Shri. P.S. Nataraja Pillai as the Manager in a thatched shed. Later, due to financial constraints, this school and its surrounding area were handed over to the Government of Kerala by T. Lakshmanan Pillai, the music maestro in Thiruvithamcore and dear disciple of Prof. Sundaram Pillai. The speech delivered on the occasion is given in Appendix I

PSNM Govt. Higher Secondary School

Sundara Vilasom L.P. School remained as a L.P. School till 1973 and was upgraded to High School in 1947. In the early years, the admission was exclusively for. boys only  to 4th standad. On 13th August 2000, the school was upgraded to a Higher Secondary School on request from parents. By 20th May 2004 girls were also given permission to join in all classes including Plus Two. Sundaravilasom L.P School now known as P.S. Nataraja Pillai Memorial Govt. Higher Secondary School holds the rich legacy of the founder and sterling alumna like Sri. B.S. Balachandran, the National Chairman of Bharat Sevak Samaj, Sri. Praveen Kumar, retired Town Planning Officer and Secretray, Bapuji Library, Peroorkada , Shri,Sindhu kumar ,famous Media Personality ,Shri.Jayachandran Nair ,Councillor ,Kudappanakkunnu,and many other high profile personalities which you find under the title PSNM ALUMNA.

The centenary celebrations of the institution were conducted with great fervor- from January to December 2008. It was inaugurated by Shri. V.S. Achuthanandan, the veteran of Kerala politics, by lighting the lamp which added the colour and beauty of the event. The bust of Shri. P.S. Nataraja Pillai was installed on 1st January 2009. Every year the family members of Shri. Nataraja Pillai gather along with the school officials and other committee members to commemorate his fond memories.

Now PSNM Govt. Higher Secondary School situated at the heart of Peroorkada fulfills the educational dreams of children in and around the place. Children from distant places get admissions to the Plus Two course in two batches. The institution is running full-fledged with classes  from 1st standard to 12th.. Various developmental activities are going on in the school.

Infrastructure

The institution spreads on 98 cents of land with smart class rooms, lab facilities, library, reading room, computer labs and science labs. A high-tech toilet for girls ‘Kaumara Mithra’ a project of TVPM Corporation was inaugurated by Hon. Mayor Arya Rajendran. As the patron of the development committee of the school, the honourable MLA V.K. Prasanth Sir takes great interest in developing the infrastructure of the school and transforming it into a Centre of Excellence. Building a new Higher Secondary Block (3 storied) with state of the art facilities has already been started. TVPM Corporation allotted 50 lakhs and honourable MLA has promised 1 crore rupees. On completion of this project, the school will have spacious class rooms, h-itech lab facilities, auditorium and seminar halls.

Under the special initiative of the honourable MLA Sri. V.K. Prasanth Sir, SSK has also allotted fund for the construction of 4 classrooms which is an ongoing project. A high-tech toilet for boys and a large and attractive front gage in memory of the great Sri. Natarajapillai Birth Anniversary Memorial Gate is also on the anvil.
